The food is absolutely excellent and prices are far from high. The service is very good, friendly and fast. The wine list is original and prices are really OK plus, as you can hear in the interview as well, you can taste many wines per glass. Since the wines on the wine list are unique in Umbria and also fairly unique in the whole of Italy, the wines per glass are also of wine makers you would like to discover. You can taste a different wine per course … and if you like something particularly, you can buy the wine as well at very good prices.

Also, the atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely, very tranquil, intimate with tables far apart. In summer you can sit on the terrace which is a real joy.

A restaurant that deserves many compliments, especially so because the owners are not making a lot of publicity themselves.

Cycling in Umbria

And green.

Many types of green.

The Italian word ‘sfumatura’ comes to mind …  hints (of green).

Only when looking at the picture at home, I saw this:

Mature sheep cheese has viagra like effects?

Oh really?

I am wondering where that information is coming from. Had thought old sheep cheese, also organic ones, would not help the arteries in any way …?

Maybe I am wrong.

Or maybe the shop owner is having a mid-life-crisis or … maybe he is responding to the ongoing economic crisis.

Speaking are the vague remains of an amphitheater (houses were built on top, the shape is still visible as well as two entrances), even vaguer remains of a temple, beautiful mosaic floors of the old Roman baths and some columns here and there. One column (what remains of it) can be found in the lovely centre square. The word square does not make sense here, this piazza is everything but square, it is the most bizarre piazza I have ever seen.

Bevagna used to have a port where goods from Rome came in and local goods were transported to Rome. One of the main roads to Rome was also passing right through the city (actually when you walk on the main street, you are walking on top of this road).

We were also treated to a tour of a Roman place where they used to make coins. The place was filled with smoke because the guys were going to show us how coins were made. It was really interesting and lovely to see. Incredible to be immersed for half an hour in a real Roman atmosphere. If at all you were having lovely fantasies of life way back then … half an hour in this place takes care of that! The rooms were dimly lit, smoky and very, very uncomfortable.

What a joy to realise being so lucky to live in the era we live in (and being born in the right place as well!). Apart from everything else … I would most likely not have reached this (tender) age in Roman times!

Around me four young Italian girls were preparing for their swimming lesson. The changing room was empty apart from us.

The radio played a love song of Jovanotti, called ‘A te’. It is a wonderful song. The lyrics are beautiful and make you dream about being so intensely appreciated by the man you love.

The young girls, maximum 10 years of age, sang along, without missing a beat. Every word correct. Their innocent high pitched voices serious while in the mean time they were casually getting about their business.

I was touched and amused at the same time.

One tree on the road to my house apparently gave up. It blocked the road. When I arrived one of the drivers was already working on the problem. He apparently happened to have a chainsaw with him and was calmly freeing the road, ignoring the dense rain. Almost heroic (remember, we are in Italy where people shun the rain whenever they can).

I thanked him for his work when he beckoned me to pass. Got a cool and macho look back. Apparently he also thought he was a hero.

Rightly so!

Everything will continue and transform. Including ourselves. A lovely idea to cherish.
